Mitu’s Stories: Ceará

In this second episode, meet the man behind the athlete enjoying quality time with his family sharing unforgettable moments on the water.

Over the years, Mitu has always enjoyed sharing his passion for kitesurfing with as many people as possible. Recently retired from competition, he has since been traveling around the world to coach clinics and fellow riders. However, what he loves most is spending time on the water with his family and passing on his passion to his sons.

Mitu Monteiro and his wife Nicole have been traveling to Brazil for nearly 10 years, but this latest trip to Preá was their first as a family of five. A kitesurfer’s paradise, the couple knows this small town inside out. The hours blend in together as the family enjoys everything the area has to offer.

Their sons Michael, Matthew and Malakai are free to roam. All five of them live barefoot for weeks, following the rhythm of the wind and waves, refocusing on the essential: their family, the ocean, and the pure sensation of riding waves.

For Nicole, seeing her three boys enjoy the water just as much as she and Mitu is priceless. An experienced kitesurfer herself, she dreams of sharing a downwind along her beloved Brazilian coast with her husband and three kids down the road. For now, she’s happy to try out wing foiling with Mitu, and to watch her children connect deeply with the water.

Naturally, going on a holiday and traveling from Cape Verde to Brazil with three boys under 10 wasn’t necessarily what most would call relaxing. However, it is all worth it for Nicole and Mitu to show their sons one of their favorite places in the world and to enjoy perfect conditions, the surrounding nature, and a slower pace of life.

Stay tuned for more.
