Manera welcomes Pete Devries

Pete Devries was born and raised in Tofino, Vancouver. While he often finds himself wearing boardshorts and surfing the most beautiful waves in the world, he is always happy to come home. The ultimate cold-wave surfer, you’ll find him in the water no matter whether it’s raining or snowing.

At only 7 years old, a few household chores allowed young Pete to ditch his bodyboard and buy his first surfboard. Back in the days wetsuits didn’t do a great job and so he could only surf in the summer. Then this little guy from Tofino, Vancouver grew up and evolved at an international level.

He may find himself wearing boardshorts and surf the most beautiful waves in the world, he is always happy to come home. Addicted to the feeling of gliding on a wave, you’ll always find him in the water whether it rains or snows.

Pete is the ultimate cold-water surfer.

PETE  INTERVIEW

Can you tell us a bit more about your passion for Surfing?

Surfing for me has always been an escape. It evokes so many different moods and feelings when I think about it. I love how challenging it is. That’s what keeps me obsessed with it.

You just won the lottery, what would you do first?

Oh, that’s a tough one. Probably take my wife and family on a vacation somewhere warm and beautiful. It’s been one long rainy winter in Canada.

Next destination?

I think El Salvador is next on the list for me.

What’s the most amazing thing you’ve experienced?

I can’t pick just one moment. I think just seeing the world doing what I love to do is amazing. The remote locations I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing are a highlight for me.

What are you doing during a day without waves?

Hanging out with my son playing sports like Hockey, soccer, basketball and surfing.
