GOODWINDS: One of a Kind in Puerto Rico

This past April, the BAKS team visited GoodWinds watersports facility in the Dorado Beach Resort of Puerto Rico.

Goodwinds Watersports is a popular water sports center situated in a scenic coastal area within a Dorado Beach Resort which includes the Ritz-Carlton Reserve. It offers a wide range of exciting activities for water enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy activities such as tow foiling with a jet ski, paddleboarding, kitesurfing, wing foiling, windsurfing, snorkeling, surfing, sailing and even land winging. The center provides high-quality equipment and offers professional instruction for beginners and riders that want to progress. The staff at Goodwinds Watersports is very knowledgeable and friendly, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors. With its stunning natural surroundings and thrilling water sports options, Goodwinds Watersports is a fantastic destination for adventure seekers in Puerto Rico.

GoodWinds lesson program and instructor trainings have been designed by Olympic Windsurfer and Co-Owner of Goodwinds, Karla Barrera and husband Phil Morstad, who is Goodwind’s Head Instructor with years of teaching and competitive experience. If you are 3 years old or 80, athletic or carry two left feet, at Goodwinds, they have something for everyone.

During our visit, we were welcomed by the local community of riders and got them to try all the new F-One gear.

For the wing foiling discipline, the Strike V3, small rocket surf boards and the new foil series SK8 had no time for sunbathing, locals tested the equipment back-to-back and were stoked!

The STRIKE V3 is the performance wing by excellence. Whether it’s freeride, freestyle, surfing or freefly, this state-of-the-art wing can do it all. The STRIKE V3 delivers unparalleled performance while guaranteeing comfort, stability, power, precision, durability, and the ability to go upwind quickly and efficiently in any winds.

The new SK8 foil family makes you feel an acceleration every turn and it is a shredding machine. Designed for surfing, this foil doesn’t just turn. It carves. Bringing control, maneuverability, and pure glide, the SK8 lets you draw dreamy lines and takes your surf and tow foiling to the next level.

For the kitesurfing discipline, new Bandit S4 paired with the TWEAK surfboard were the best partners for the locals! Although the conditions were a bit low due to some forecasted rain, locals enjoyed riding on larger sizes. Though, the bandit S4 remains easy-to-fly with impeccable handling and perfect power control in all conditions. The TWEAK brings its responsiveness, early planning, and great maneuverability in medium size waves.

Finally, for the kitefoiling discipline, the new Bandit XVI was the weapon of choice with its legendary precision feel, comfort and stability no matter the conditions. Paired with the pocket board, mirage and escape foils, gliding over Dorado beach translucent and clear pristine waters are just breathtaking and vibrant. The island’s coastal areas boast a range of stunning hues, varying from turquoise to deep blue.

During our stay, we also attended the North American Championship & AWBG Continental Qualifier for wingfoil racing in San Juan and give support to Rafky Sanchez, GoodWinds instructor, and hook him up with the newest gear for the race. On a total of 17 races, Rafty made it to 5th position overall. Congratulations!

We want to thank the local rider community in Puerto Rico for sharing their spots, waves, GoodWinds, good food and good vibes! If you have a change to visit this beautiful island, make sure to schedule a visit to Karla, Phil and Rafky if you would like information about F-One gear, accommodations in Dorado Beach Resort, watersport lesson and activities to do in Dorado and its surroundings.
