This past weekend, the F-One wing foiling grom squad and other young foilers were invited to the SailGP final stop of its 2nd season in the famed waters of the San Francisco Bay. They were part of the SailGP Inspire initiatives, a program for young sailors to showcase their foiling skills. This was the first time the Inspire program invited wing foilers. The groms, as young as 12, had a fantastic time, rubbing shoulders with gold medalists, world champions and America’s Cup winners.

On Friday they visited the installation of the SailGP and all the teams staged in Pier 96 where they could see up close how high-tech those F50s are as well as the large support and tech groups needed.

The groms did some slalom courses inbetween F50 races, followed by a freestyle session. The crowd in the bleachers went wild as the vast majority of them had no idea what wing foiling was. What a way to showcase wing foiling to a large public which was estimated to be 6000 people on Saturday!

Young wing foilers who participated were:

  • Christopher MacDonald
  • Kai Mirrel
  • Morgan Ostermann
  • Henry Vare
  • Morgan Headington
  • Kai Potter
  • Patrick Kissinger
  • Luca Vuillermet

When it came to the SailGP final results, the Australian team lead by Tom Slingsby, won the SailGP Championship for a second successive year, beating Japan and the United States in the Grand Final on a crazy, incident-filled day in San Francisco. Learn more about the Grand Final here.
