Titouan Galea Wins GWA Wingfoil World Tour – Mondial du Vent 2021

Titouan Galea wins the first wingfoil world tour event of the 2021 season in Leucate, France.

What a start to the season!
The first wingfoil world tour event of 2021 season kicked off with the Mondial du Vent in Leucate, France with 52 riders signed up and 11 of them riding for F-One.

RESULTS & PODIUMS

Titouan Galea wins the first GWA event of the year with a first place in both freestyle and surf racing, effectively winning the event.

Flora Artzner who recently joined the team takes the second place in surf racing and third place in freestyle. She is third overall, which is quite a result for her first competition.

THE DISCIPLINES

FREESTYLE

For the freestyle discipline, riders were judged on the quality of their maneuvers (air tricks and surface tricks). The location of Leucate is quite tricky, as the wind is offshore and gusty and the water is ultra flat. While most of the riders’ home spot have some kickers to use as jumps, these conditions proved new and difficult.

Titouan will always have a great story to tell about this freestyle final. Halfway through his heat, Titouan sent his first backflip attempt, but his foil fell on his wing pierced his Strike it two places. Teammates Maxime and Hendrick ran to hand him another wing but Titouan had no time to lose and decided to continue his heat as such. He gave the backflip another try with the holes in the wing, landed it perfectly and scored a 7.83, beating out his opponent Balz Muller.

 SURF RACE

Most of our riders had never crossed a starting line before this event, but what a great experience it was for them! The Surf Race has been thought to break the rules of regular sailing racing tracks. The riders cross the starting line and go to a first buoy where they have to stop using the wing as a way of propulsion. In these particular Leucate conditions, they had to put the wing in hover mode and pump with their legs all the way to the next buoy. One jibe later and they have to go back upwind to the following buoy and cross the finish line.

THE GAME CHANGER – COMING SOON

On Sunday, the wind slowly died out throughout the day and when it came time for the Surf Race finals, the wind was averaging 10 knots. The event’s light conditions made it pretty tough for most of the competitors but luckily, our riders were equipped with our latest wing prototype which allows for amazing light wind performances. Titouan Galea was able to win the finals on the latest 6m CWC (Compact Wing Concept) prototype, riding at ease in under 10 knots. Stay tuned for more info on the CWC!
