The Hype is TRUE! The Mitu Monteiro Pro is the real deal!

nj-mitu-test1First things first, YOU NEED TO GET ONE OF THESE MITU PRO MODEL BOARDS!!! Yesterday I had an opportunity to get out on the Mitu Monteiro Pro 5′ 10″. I just need to say, for the first time I have experienced a product that matches all the hype.

Once again F-One is going with the idea that you should only need one product for many styles of riding. The Bandit is the go to kite for freestyle, free ride and surf style kiteboarding. That kite, being a 3-strut delta, is an amazing do-it-all kite. And now the Mitu Pro will be the d0-it-all surf board.

Lets face the facts, MOST kiteboarders around the world are not going to end up on the PKS tour, most of us will never get sponsored and if we are really lucky we will find a dealer who will offer us 15-20% off new gear. Having a ton of boards for different conditions is not realistic for many of us; the Mitu Pro is the answer for this dilemma.

Yes the board is a little pricy ($999 retail for the 5’10″), but that price beats the price of having a lightwind surfboard, strappless board and a board for big surf. It comes with the deck pad on, fins and has inserts for straps but does not come with them.

Yesterday the air temp was 40 degrees, water temp 45 degrees and the wind was from the NE at 12-18mph. The ocean was choppy with small waves 1-3 feet. I used a F-One 13m Trust, the 5’10″ Mitu Pro and was having a blast. If your from the east coast you know the NE current can be a buzz kill and at 185 pounds in the past I would have been on a 5’10″ Wainman Gambler and a 14.5 Wainman Big Mamma (mainly because the current kills the wind). Yesterday I was so surprised. The 13m and Mitu Pro had be driving up wind. I was shocked. I even purposely had a buddy set up a car for a down winder because I was sure kiting in place was not an option.

image   I am not going to get in the specifics about the board, but it is everything you will read about. The concave deck pad is great, the board planes easy, eats chop and surfs like a dream. When doing a jibe it felt like there was a lot of control and stability. The one thing that really stood out was if I took a really wide stance the board seemed to accelerate when tacking or driving up wind. The few little strapless airs I did seemed to be effortless as the board popped out of the water. The board really is something special. The only down fall is with booties it could use some wax, but that was expected; F-One is putting out a wax very soon to be used on the deck pad. This board is available for demo.
