After an exciting week of competition at the GWA Wingfoil World Cup in Fuerteventura, F-One rider Luca Vuillermet delivered one of the biggest performances of his season. Throwing down massive tricks under pressure, Luca battled his way to a second-place finish and climbed to fifth in the overall world rankings. Read his full recap below.
“Conditions at the Fuerteventura comp were 20 to 25 knots with small waves rolling through, and I trained hard that morning to get ready. In my first heat and quarterfinal, I ran the same line each time. Big frontflip 360 to open, frontside 1080 to secure points, then a Palau 720, closing with a frontside 1440, four full spins, one of the biggest tricks in the sport. Landed it clean both times and made it to the semis.”
“Semis I had to go all in. The wind dropped mid heat and I crashed the 1440 a few times before finally landing it and winning the heat.
The final got pushed to the next day for better wind. Here was the scenario. I was ranked 6th in the world, same as last year, with Axel Gerard just 80 points ahead in 5th. Beat him and finish at least second, and his spot was mine. I crashed the 1440 three times in the final. One attempt left. I came in close to the beach, hyped the crowd, took my speed, and landed it.”
