“We were competing at Sotavento, a spot famous for its strong, steady winds and wide-open water. Normally it’s blowing 25–30 knots, but during the event it came in lighter than expected—around 15–20 knots—so the riding had a different feel compared to the usual full-power Fuerte sessions.”
The Week Before
I arrived in Fuerteventura a week before the competition to train and get fully dialed in with the spot’s conditions. That week, Sotavento was firing with its classic 25–30 knot winds—perfect for going big, dialing in my high-wind tricks, and feeling comfortable in full-power conditions. I spent those days fine-tuning my moves, testing gear, and building a solid heat strategy for when the competition began.
The Challenge Before the Comp
A few days before the event, disaster struck during training—a footstrap broke, and my heel slammed straight into the screw head. The on-site medical team took amazing care of me every day, making sure I could still get on the water when it mattered. That meant no riding for the last couple of days before the comp. Not exactly the ideal prep, but I was determined to make it count once the competition started.
Competition Highlights
Freestyle
Even with limited practice beforehand, I managed to find my rhythm quickly. In my opening heat, I landed two last-second tricks to secure the win against two of my good friends, Ezio Bastianelli and Nathan Berger. Luckily, they both won their catch-up rounds and kept their runs alive for another day.
Next came a tough quarterfinal against Alex Acherer, currently ranked 4th in the world. In the dying seconds of the heat, I landed a perfect 1080 that tied the score, forcing a tiebreaker—and I came out on top!
From there, I pushed through to the semifinals, marking another strong finish on tour. I didn’t make the finals this time, but I’m closing the gap, and I can feel that first finals appearance getting closer.
Looking Ahead
This result has me fired up for what’s next. I’m heading to Gran Canaria for the fourth and final stop of the 2025 season, and my goal is simple—make the finals. With solid training and my foot back to 100%, I’m ready to send it.
See you on the water,
