Luca is back with another GWA recap, this time from the Costa Brava Youth World Cup!
“Hey everyone! Luca here! Just got back from Costa Brava, where I competed in the Youth Wingfoil World Championships!
This year’s Youth Worlds were held at La Ballena Alegre in Sant Pere Pescador, Spain, and it couldn’t have been a better setup. Huge sandy beaches, warm water, a fun atmosphere, and good wind (well, sometimes…). The wind was very light most of the week, which made things tricky, but the energy on the beach totally made up for it.
What really makes this event stand out is how it brings together young riders from all over the world—92 of us from 9 to 18 years old! We’re all pushing each other, learning together, and having the best time both on and off the water. And it’s great that the event also includes beach cleanups and eco projects, because taking care of the places we ride really matters.”
Competition Highlights
Freestyle
“The wind was super light, which made freestyle tough. I went out early against Alex Gerard, who was riding incredibly well all week and ended up finishing 2nd overall. Congrats to him!”
FreeFly-Slalom (Racing)
“Racing started off strong—I won my first race against some of the top riders and felt fast and confident. But after that, I hit a few bumps with two DSQs for early starts. Definitely not ideal, but part of the game. Especially in light wind, starts are all about timing and focus.”
What I Learned
“One of the best parts of this event is the community vibe. We’re all in the same campground, riding together, sharing sessions, helping each other out, and just having fun. It’s awesome to connect with younger up-and-coming athletes, trade tips, and keep learning. Events like this remind me why I love wingfoiling—it’s not just about results. It’s about progress, passion, and the people you meet along the way.”
What’s Next
“Right now, I’m in France, training near the F-One headquarters in Montpellier and getting my gear dialed in. Next, I’m heading to the Canary Islands for the Adult Freestyle Wingfoil World Tour. First stop: Lanzarote for a week of training, then over to Fuerteventura for two more—one week of prep and one week of competition for the third World Tour stop of the season. Finally, I’ll spend a week in Gran Canaria for the fourth event of the tour. Can’t wait to send it in the Canaries and keep pushing my riding to the next level!”
