“Hey everyone! I’m Luca, a 15-year-old pro wingfoiler from Santa Monica, California, sharing a piece of my journey as I chase wind and waves around the world.”
About Me
“I started wingfoiling four years ago and was instantly hooked on the feeling of flying above the water. Three years ago, I joined the F-One Grom Team, and soon after, I stepped onto the adult freestyle world tour as an international F-One rider. Only the top 28 riders in the world compete on this tour. In my rookie season, I finished 17th overall, climbed to 9th last season, and now I’m ranked 5th in the world in freestyle.
Alongside my six semifinal finishes in eight events on the adult world tour, I’ve also earned two Youth World Titles, pushing closer to the top ranks in a sport I love.”
Training and Competing in Tarifa
“I just wrapped up the second stop of the freestyle wingfoil world tour in Tarifa, Spain—the southernmost tip of the country and a mecca for wind lovers.
I arrived a week early to adjust to jet lag and train in Tarifa’s strong conditions. A few days later, my coach Nico Delmas and teammate Noe Cuyala joined me, and we spent a couple of days on the water, dialing in tricks and strategies for the event.
The event ran over four days:
• Day 1 : The wind held around 20 knots—good for freestyle but tricky at times. I landed a 1080 (three spins), a backmobe 360, and a Palau 360, winning my heat and advancing straight to the quarterfinals.
• Day 2: I stepped up with more amplitude and cleaner landings, earning my ticket to the semifinals and feeling dialed in and confident.
• Day 3: With no wind, I went for a hike and joined an event-organized beach cleanup—something I always appreciate, as it’s important to give back to the places we compete.
• Day 4: The wind roared in at 40 knots, making for epic conditions. I went all in, landing two big tricks and attempting a 1440 (four spins)—a world’s first in competition. I didn’t stick it and lost my semifinal heat, marking my seventh semifinal finish on the adult world tour. I’m still pushing to break into my first finals.”
Next Stop: Costa Brava
“I’m now driving up to Costa Brava in Northeast Spain for the Youth World Championship, ready to push harder, learn more, and keep progressing toward my goals in the sport. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!”
See you on the water,
Luca
