Cocoa Beach’s FSRL Showdown: A Recap

This past weekend, the Foil Surf Racing League (FSRL) held a competition in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Good Breeze, a proud F-One dealer, put on the show, drawing in over 70 competitors from across the country. Competing in various disciplines, F-One riders Jack Ho and Edo Tanas made the journey out from Oahu, Hawaii and brought the stoke. Over the course of the weekend, riders competed in plenty of different events, ranging from SUP heats to tow-in strapped expression sessions.

FSRL event:

A foil surfing endurance race in which athletes paddle into waves to start and then work their way down the beach by riding multiple waves to an exit point. They must then work their way back up beach to the starting area to complete one lap. First rider to complete designated number of laps wins the heat.”

“This was my first time visiting Florida. Never thought I would come out here for an ocean event, but thanks to foiling, I made it to east coast. The event was so unique due to the conditions and the format style of the “race” course. Unlike a downwind event, this incorporated wave riding, pumping, paddling, and running. Almost like an obstacle course relay style race. You would catch a wave, ride down the beach, turn the buoy, and do it again. First one to complete 2 laps and run up the beach wins. The second day featured a wave riding event, with strapped and strapless divisions. Riders were whipped into waves on jet skis and each heat had 6 guys battling it out. From the field of 30 riders, the top 5 highest scoring performances made it to the final heat.”

“The champs were crowned in each division and checks were handed out. I was super stoked to podium this event. Getting 3rd place among a stacked field of around 30 riders felt great. The level of talent is rising so fast and I’m so lucky to be a part of this fast growing sport. I’d like to thank Brian and Billy as well as Good Breeze Kite Shop for hosting the event. It’s not easy to have a weekend long foil event but they pulled it off flawlessly. I’m looking forward to participating next year.”

Mahalo, Jack.

Jack and Edo, both riders from Oahu, took the weekend mission to Florida to compete in both prone surf and SUP events. Jack, placing top 10 in the prone surf semis pro, advanced to the finals of the prone surf event and claimed 4th. Later, he took home a well deserved podium bronze in the strapped final heat.
