2018 LVC RAISES 35K FOR LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS
JANUARY 24, 2018

What an event! With clinics and events all day long on the beach, a multi-day KiteXpo, as well as daily raffles, nightly parties and more, this year, the 2018 La Ventana Classic raised a total of $35,350 to send local students to high school as well as a pay for a transportation bus for disabled students! Thank you to all of the generous donors and everyone who supported the 2018 La Ventana Classic!

All LVC proceeds go to the Amigos de Alumnos Program who disperse funds appropriately to send local students from the La Ventana/El Sargento/Los Planes areas to school. Here’s what they have to say:

“On February 2011, Amigos de Alumnos started as a small group of people wanting to give back to our beautiful communities in La Ventana Bay. Funds were raised primarily through donors who supported our goals. We promised that all funds are spent directly for student scholarships. Beginning with the 2011 school year we offered 5 scholarships to cover the cost for a student’s transportation and tuition for the full 3 years of high school. The students are required to maintain an average of B or higher in every class. Two students from this first group are attending university in Nursing and Business Administration. By 2014 we were sponsoring 14 students. We were very happy we could help so many students but we had only been able to offer scholarships to the students from El Sargento and La Ventana. Los Planes was an area with great need but we were without sufficient funds to expand our numbers. Enter Tim Hatler with an offer to team up Amigos de Alumnos and the La Ventana Classic. All donations we receive from the LV Classic are used to fund our scholarship program. What a partnership! Within two years the number of students we support for high school attendance soared to 42. This number now includes students from Los Planes and Agua Amarga and for the first time we have offered a university scholarship to a young man from a farm worker family who will attend UNIPAZ. Juan is pursuing a nursing degree with a long range goal of eventually becoming a doctor. We offer chances to change lives of our students and their families!”
